Bio Oil For Acne Scars

Bio Oil for acne scars is just one of the products you can try to help your skin heal if you suffer from acne. If you have really bad scarring, Bio Oil may not meet your needs, but it is still worth a try to see how much it can reduce the appearance of scars.

Bio Oil is derived from plant oil and a vitamin formula known as PurCellin Oil. This moisturises and gives elasticity to the skin and also helps give the appearance of a more even skin tone.

Bio Oil deals with scar tissue by reducing the redness and inflammation of the acne pustules. As with any non-prescription product you buy you would be wise to follow the manufacturers recommended usage. You should not use the oil when the scaring is fresh, but wait for them to heal a little.

You already know how fragile the skin is, so just rub a little oil to the affected areas a couple of times a day. In three months, you should see evidence that it is working. The treatment areas will begin to blend in more with the surrounding skin by reducing redness and darker areas.

You may be lucky and see changes sooner depending on the severity of the scarring. However, Bio Oil is not a miracle cure, although it does help quite a few acne sufferers this is most likely in mild to moderate cases.

As always, if you suffer with acne you should maintain a healthy diet and also your cleansing routine at least twice a day to prevent the build up of bacteria that will either lead to a break out or make it worse.

Simply put, does Bio Oil work for acne scars? It would seem it does for some, but not for all.

Bio Oil For Stretch Marks

Many people advocate bio oil for stretch marks and it is widely sold for this purpose alone.

Stretch marks should not stress you out, they are part of being pregnant and may simply be unavoidable for many women. While you can apply cocoa butter and other creams to help stop any skin irritation caused by the skin stretching, one can but live in hope that they will actually prevent the marks.

Using bio oil for stretch marks will keep your skin supple and totally naturally and there are a few studies that have looked at this. For example, the proDERM study in 2010.

Cocoa butter however is a good investment. It has been demonstrated that if you use cocoa butter regularly both during and after your pregnancy, this may at least reduce the appearance of the stretch marks. Sometimes they will eliminate them – but don’t hold your breath as you may not be so lucky!

You can also help to control your stretch marks by eating the right kinds of food. Eat a healthy diet while you are pregnant so your skin gets all the nutrients it needs. Eating the right food will also help to keep a watch on your weight. Weight gain can increase the size of the stretch marks.

Does Bio Oil Work?

If you haven’t heard of Bio Oil by now, then you may have been living in a bubble! Bio oil has accumulated quite a few accolades over the years from various places around the world, but does Bio Oil work and what is in it?

In answer to the last question, Bio Oil is manufactured from natural essential oils such as calendula, lavender, rosemary and chamomile. Vitamins A and E, a rose fragrance and colouring (don’t know why) are added together within an oil base. Some of the ingredients sound a bit scary, but using their Latin or scientific names can do that! For example, benzyl salicylate occurs naturally in a variety of plants and plant extracts and is widely used in blends of fragrance materials. As with most things, natural or not, individuals can be sensitive to any or all ingredients. So, if this is you, stop using Bio Oil! Most people however are just fine and swear by the product.

Before you feel misled however, please understand that the primary ingredient is derived from petroleum which, as it sits on the skin is then acted on by a further ingredient that works to force the active ingredients into the skin. If you happily use petroleum jelly, then you will happy with Bio Oil. If this worries you, just don’t use it.

Bio Oil is one of the most popular products for scar and stretch mark treatments since it was launched in 2002. That’s at least 10 years, so if asking does Bio Oil work, I think if it did nothing at all it would no longer be on the market. According to surveys, it is also one of the most recommended products for stretch marks and scars by doctors and pharmacists.

Many people use Bio Oil at night as a moisturiser when it has been found to leave the skin ‘glowing’, well nourished and to even out skin tone. It won’t work overnight and most people report it can take three months for any real effect.

Bio oil is claimed to improve some of the following:

The appearance of existing stretch marks
The appearance of aging skin
The appearance of blemishes

The appearance of uneven skin tone
